I must be insane!

When I was at the Long Beach quilt show, this quilt

inspired me to purchase this.

So here is the insane part. I am going to cut up the squares like this

and make these cute 1" hexagons!
I bought these from the Cotton and Chocolate booth. The lady demonstrated the technique by cutting charm pack squares into 2.5" squares and then wrapped them around the template. She didn't cut them into hexagons and neither did I.

Then I am going to hand-piece them together! What am I thinking? Am I insane to start a hand-pieced project? I can't help it, but once you start making a couple of them, you are hooked!

The second insane part about all of this, it the amount of Simplicity fabric that I have! As you can see, the basket is overflowing with the fabric. This has become my favorite Moda line of fabric. I dream about it and I am even going to make a table skirt for my sewing table out of the blue floral fabric. I guess I better love the fabric because I am going to be seeing a lot of it now that I am going to turn it into a hand-piecing project!

If you want more hexagon inspitation, check out Camille's tutorial . You too may also want to join the insanity!

Until next time.....Happy Quilting!

I am hand piecing a GFG quilt, been at it for four years and I call it my "nursing home quilt" because at the rate I'm progressing, I expect I'll be living in one when it's finished. I am not using the English paper piecing method but am sewing my seams by hand. And, I'm also using Moda pastels, the Paris Flea Market collection. Seeing your post reminds me to get to work on mine. :)

I love your fabric. I would have so much of it too. I started a hexagon quilt years ago and have never finished it, though it was so fun to work on. I need to get it out again. Great idea about just cutting fabric into squares instead of hexagons. I will have to try that. Thanks.

I was going through the stitcher's angel bloggers and I thought I'd drop in and say hi ... I hope you don't mind ;o). I've been making a queen size 1" hexy quilt for 2 years now (between projects). It's almost done, just got the border to do. I used cardboard hexys so you can "pop" them out when all 6 sides are sewn and re-use them - great idea!!Have fun with yours :o).
Cheers,
Joy :o)

Hi, I'm another Stitchers' Angel touring the blogs. I finished a GFG by hand this spring, it was a project from 1993 to 2003 and finally two months in 2008. I just happened to give a link to that quilt on my today's post. - Now I'm learning to embroider with the angel projects.

Hi, I just found your blog today. I can totally see why you would fall in love with that quilt, it is stunning, I can't wait to see your finished one as well.

I love the fabric you have chosen, I went to the store today and bought a ton of this same fabric line to make a quilt for my bedroom. I wish I had the ambition to make a quilt like yours, but I don't LOL. Maybe a dresser scarf...
