What do you do when you finish making your blocks and you have a pile of scraps?
Well, as you know, my new motto for this year is "Waste Not, Want Not", so I took my pile of scraps and I just started to sew the pieces together.
Here is what I made from the leftover scraps from my Designer Mystery Blocks:
Everything was just randomly sewn together and done without a plan. It was quite liberating to just make whatever I wanted to make! I think that I am going to dig through my "scrap basket" and pull out the other scraps from my previous blocks and continue sewing them together.
Now, what should I do with this when I am done with it? Should I:
- Add it to the back of the quilt
- Make a table runner
- Make a wall hanging
Can you help me decide or give me any other suggestions?
Well, I think that I am going to look for some more scraps to sew together. Remember, "Waste Not, Want Not"!
Until Next Time.....Happy Quilting!

Hmmmm - I think they are all fine ideas *s*
Love the fabric - I used it for two Christmas quilts this year.
As for the 'scraps' - I like the idea of either sewing them on the back or making a doll quilt (my youngest loves blankies for her babies).
Hi, that kind of sewing is sometimes called, Strign piecing, or Mile a Minute blocks. I cut those pieces into blocks and sash them, and sew them into quilts, or table runners. I agree that is it soooooooo freeing.....although it makes you crazy to throw away scraps now....good for you! I love the colors, RED! Yeah for RED! Happy New Year!
I love using leftovers and scraps for gift bags....Flower seed season will be here before you know it. Make a couple and stuff tea or seeds in there and they make great gifts. Fill with poupourri for your bathroom.
Why don't you make pillow slips (cases) to use with the quilt? Looks good - I too am doing this BOM - but I have been rather naughty and haven't stitched a block yet!! I will soon rectify that and have a day where I stitch all 7 (soon to be 8).
Kind regards - Dawn
Looks like a perfect size for a journal cover. I love sewing scraps together to create something new and original. Very cute scrap sewing.
Maybe you can use that for your "giftie" for a certain party????? I'm just sayin!
Hi! You could use those to make little tote bags or pot holders or make a little tiny block for candle coasters (so the candle doesn't burn the table if it gets hot)oohhh so many fun things =)

There is so much you can make with those gorgeous scraps! Heck, make strips, then 4 patches or 1/2 sq triangles from the strips....set these blocks next to each other and space them with another strip...the possibilites are endless! Good money was paid for these fabrics and every bit should be put to use whether it be a back of a quilt or just random somethin' somethin'. Have fun and be liberated!!
